The 'W' trek is one of the most popular routes around the park that takes in the most of the best awe-inspiring vistas: from the towering granite peaks to mirrored lakes and gargantuan glaciers tumbling down through the forests.
The trek usually takes fives days and requires four days overnight in the park. For people with more time there is also a 10 day circular route called El Cicuito.
Most hikers carry all their own equipment, which once you have included tents, cooking equipment and food can weigh quite a lot. A decent standard of fitness is required to get round the W in five days. It is possible to book accommodation at lodges at some points in the park, although these get booked-up well in advance and can be expensive during peak season (January and February).
Peurto Natales is the nearest town to the national park. Many hotels and hostels have camping equipment which can be hired or bought and some will look after luggage so that it is possible to cut-down on what you carry round the park.
