Silly Commuter Racing
Description:

Also known as 'The Game', Silly Commuter Racing is the name that has been given to the competitive side of cycling to work. Pass other cyclists to earn points, but loose points for being passed yourself. Overtaking lycra-clad cyclists with shaved legs (like girls) or scooters gives you the most points, whilst shoppers with wicker baskets and electric bikes gives you the least.

Not only is it great fun and gives you something to occupy your mind on a boring commute it also pushes you to cycle faster and improve your fitness at the same time.
The phenomenon has a growing fan-base and started with a forum posted on the Bike Radar site back in June 2008. The forum now stretches to over 1,300 pages. There is also a dedicated website and a calculator to work out your points and your place in the 'foodchain'.
Here's the Foodchain and the rules (safety first please!):

The Rules: Silly Commuter Racing By Numbers
- No dangerous manoeuvres. Don’t be a danger to others or yourself. Falling off causes pain to you and others around you, and you lose yer points!
- Don’t ride like a c*ck, we’re all just trying to get somewhere!
- No passing at lights/ junction/crossings. All passing on open roads only.
- Filtering in traffic is null and void (you know if you’ve dropped someone fairly, and haven’t turned off afterwards)
- Pavement passes – either you or the target is void
- Show no pain – unless your face is just like that
